Home Projects: Molding in Bathroom

On April 18, my parents came over and helped install molding in our bathroom. We started remodeling the bathroom June of last year, but the help we were receiving had other things come up and wasn't able to help any more. We are finally returning to the project, and I can't wait to fix the items already falling apart, finish the items that weren't finished, and have a new bathroom.

The molding is one of the items that was not finished. My parents left us their wood filler, (very old wood filler) and I got to work finally on filling the nail holes and small gaps in some of the corners.

Filling the nail holes wasn't hard. Okay, so first, because the wood filler is so old I did have to add a little bit of water and mix it up; that was a little daunting because I was worried I'd add too much water. Luckily I got it right on the first try. Then it was just a matter of taking my small putty knife and spreading the filler over the nail holes.

For the corners that gave us problems putting up the molding, I made a small snake with the wood filler and used my fingers to put it in the corners.

After everything was filled, I let the filler set, and came back the next day and sanded down the wood filler. Once everything was sanded, I cleaned up my mess and came back with some paint.

Now the molding looks great, and it's time for the next task in our DIY list.

Read-a-thon Wrap Up

My first read-a-thon has ended. How did I do? I finished one book, have started 2 more, I basically crashed in hour 17 - could not keep eyes open, and fell asleep listening to the audiobook, but I do feel I accomplished a lot yesterday.

Not only am I excited for October and the next Dewey's 24 hour read-a-thon, but I'm thinking I will soon be googling read-a-thons to find others to participate in. I met some interesting people that I will be following on Twitter, or their blogs.

I had fun participating in the mini-challenges they had each hour, and am happy I was able to answer one of the scavenger hunt clues. The clue I answered was: "a book where one of the main characters in the movie adaptation was played by an actor who had previously been in the twilight and harry potter movies?" Do you know the answer? :-)  (I'll include the answer below.)

The most daunting hour(s) were the last ones I was awake for, hours 16 and 17. I could feel the sandman filling my eye lids with his sand. I'll need to experiment to find the best ways to stay awake all 24 hours, because I will read for 24 hours next time. If you have any suggestions for how to stay awake, please comment below.

Well, now it's time to start a new day and finish some of the projects I had started yesterday - I'll post about them probably later this week. I'll see you all next time. And don't worry, I didn't forget, the answer to the scavenger hunt clue? Water for Elephants - Robert Pattinson played Cedric Diggory in the Harry Potter series, Edward in the Twilight series, and Jacob Janowski in Water for Elephants. (Disclaimer: I have not actually read Water for Elephants, I remembered seeing Robert Pattinson in the trailers and on the movie posters.)

Read-a-Thon Mid Event Survey

I'm very happy with myself with how much I've been reading and listening to books. I'm surprised with how much I've actually accomplished around the house too. But now it is time for the Mid Event Survey.

What are you currently reading? Currently I am bouncing between a physical book, The Wolf In Winter by John Connollly, and an audiobook The Son of Neptune by Rick Riordan.

How many books have you read so far? So far I have only finished one book, Insurgent by Veronica Roth.

What book are you most looking forward to for the second half of the Read-a-thon? I'm looking forward to Allegiant by Veronica Roth, audiobook, if I finish The Son of Neptune.

Have you had many interruptions? Not many, my fiance was at work so it's only been the dogs and me until about an hour ago when my fiance returned home. How did you deal with those? The dogs usually were looking for some attention or to go outside. I've gotten fairly good about seeing what is in my peripheral vision so I was able to see to walk to the door to let them out. Or if they were asking for attention, I used whatever hand was free or one of my feet to pet them.

What surprises you most about the Read-a-thon so far? I'm surprised at how focused I've been. In recent months I haven't been able to focus on reading for very long, and today I've already finished one book and started two others.

About to Participate in my First Read-A-Thon

I'm excited and anxious all at once. I want to see what a read-a-thon is, and see how this all works. I was up early to get dogs fed, and my Fiance is about to leave for work. Then it's time to READ, and I can't wait.

On the site for Dewey's 24 hour read-a-thon, they have posted a few questions just so those participating, and those cheering can get to know each other, so here are the questions and my answers:

First, what part of the world are you reading from? I am reading from Michigan, in the United States. The weather here is being a little finiky. It's supposed to be Spring, but we've had cold temperatures and not too long ago had some snow fall. Thankfully no accumulation.

Which book in your stack are you most looking forward to? I started the audiobook for Insurgent earlier this week, and I can't wait to finish it.

Which snack are you most looking forward to? I actually don't have a snack I'm most looking forward to. My appetite changes and I usually eat whatever is around that I feel like having at the moment.

Tell us a little something about yourself. Well, let's see. I've been engaged for almost 3 years to my high school sweet heart. We haven't really been able to decide what we want to do for a wedding but are working to be Mr. and Mrs. before the end of this year.

If this is your first read-a-thon what are you most looking forward to? Not only is this my first time participating in Dewey's read-a-thon, but this is my first read-a-thon ever. I'm excited to see what happens in a read-a-thon, and to challenge myself to stay up and read, listen to audiobooks for the full 24 hours.

Writing Bookworm Review: Divergent by Veronica Roth

I just finished listening to the audiobook of Divergent by Veronica Roth, read by Emma Galvin. This was a good book. (Photo taken from https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/13335037-divergent)

I enjoyed how the character histories played into the plot, and everything just flowed. I'll probably listen to the book again to try to pick up on the subtleties of working in the histories. Like how Tris's mother's history was worked in with just a few sentences, and later Tris realizing her mother had a memento of her past (trying not to give anything away if you haven't read the book already) and what it meant of her mother's past.

If you have issues, like I do, of working in your characters pasts, pick up this book and you may learn a thing or two.

I had some difficulties keeping the factions straight, but that was more because I was multi-tasking while listening. There was usually some comment after mentioning a faction that reminded me what it is that faction is known for. This meant I didn't have to rewind the recording a lot to figure out what was going on.

The story is entertaining, and keeps you wanting more; to know what happens and how Tris will get out of the situations she is in, or how she will solve her current problem. Just like our lives, Tris faces one problem after another. Not like our lives, most of her problems could mean her death.

I give this book, 4 bookworms out of 5.

Things I'm Considering

So, mostly I've been working my regular job, slash taking care of general housekeeping things. However, I have done some researching slash web surfing on the side. This has led to a few things I'm considering.

One thing I'm considering is starting a BookTube channel. I've noticed most of the booktubers I've found only or mostly read physical books and have really large bookshelves and are almost always looking for shelving units to organize their books. I would be the opposite. I prefer eBooks, and so most of my book collection is eBooks.

I'm not sure about starting a BookTube channel since I don't have a lot of free time. I haven't finished the book I started reading...probably a month or more ago. So I'm not sure I'd be able to record and upload videos, and complete book reviews with any kind of regularity.

A second thing I'm considering is starting a Facebook page. I have a Facebook profile for my personal family and friends, but don't have a page for people to follow what I'm doing. I'm not sure now is the best time to start a page though for the same reason that is making me hesitate about starting a BookTube channel. I'm not sure I'd be able to post items with any kind of regularity. Just look at this blog. The last post I made was the end of March...it's almost the end of April and I'm just now posting something; which I am mad at myself for this. I want to post with more regularity.

Third, I'm considering joining a Read-a-Thon. I had never even heard of a Read-a-Thon until one of the BookTuber videos I watched mentioned doing a Read-a-Thon. There is one that happens this coming Saturday, the 25th. The Read-a-Thon is called Dewey's Read-a-Thon. What is holding me back? Well...I'm usually so tired from my busy days, that I fall asleep in a chair. Recently I was trying to reach 10,000 steps using my FitBit to track my steps. While walking around my house to get steps, my eyes were closing I was so tired. I almost tripped a few times so took that as a hint, sat down, and was out like a light. I'm not sure I'll be able to stay up for 24 hours.

I have been experimenting with things and this week, I have done much better at staying awake past 7:00 pm. Except for last night, I was even staying awake until 1:30 am. Last night I broke my streak, laid down for a nap around 10:00 pm and did not hear the alarm. At least I don't remember hearing the alarm.

These are some things I'm considering, please let me know what your thoughts are on these items or what you are considering in the comments. I am trying to get things set so I can have time to post about things with more regularity, and I hope to have this in line very soon. Please do stay tuned.
