Dewey's Readathon!!

Hour - 0

Good morning/afternoon/evening,

I'm running a little late this morning. By the time this posts, Dewey's will have started. So, I'm going to hurry and type as fast as my little fingers will go.

1) I am reading from Michigan, United States.
2) I am most looking forward to finishing The Fall of the Dragon Prince by Dan Allen, I am currently only 1% into the book.
3) I am most looking forward to some Sweet & Sour Starburst candies!!
4) A little something about myself...last month I celebrated my 1 year anniversary as husband and wife. We've actually been together now for a little over 17 years; we started dated as softmores in high school.
5) Something I'm doing different this time, I'm considering joining more of the mini-challenges, and updating this post as we go along with the readathon.

Hour - 2

1 hour down, I've been listening to Stormdancer by Jay Kristoff. I now have a little over 30 minutes left (I've been listening at 1.25 speed). My husband has just gotten up and our dog AJ is currently frolicking in the yard. I can already tell, I'm going to need some time once Stormdancer is done to collect myself.

Hour - 3

I'm posting this a little early...technically there is still 10 minutes before hour 3 starts. I am working to recover from finishing Stormdancer. I'm not sure if the ending got to me more because of something that happened earlier this week in my current life...but either way, I'm having almost an out of body experience. I don't really feel like I'm here. Not sure if that makes sense or not, but it's the best I can do to explain how I'm feeling.

So I've been watching and catching up on some YouTube videos, and am starting to feel more myself.

Hour - 5

I missed updating at the start of hour 4, and here we are now going on hour 5. I've started Poison Study by Maria V Snyder. I'm almost an hour into the book.

I've also broken into my Sweet & Sour Starbursts already. While listening to Poison Study I've been getting some house chores done, mostly cleaning up.

Hour - 7

I started reviewing documents for work, and now need a break. I'm going to get up and go for a jog I think. I'm supposed to be training for a 5k, but with everything going on this week I haven't gone out since Sunday.

Hour - 17

Been a while since I updated...I was running late to get to my friend's bachelorette party. Just got back a little while ago. Finished editing and posted my video for the day. Now I think it's time for some sleep. My eyes are getting tired, and my husband and dog are already sleeping. The real reason is the house is tooooooo quiet. It irks me. So I'll go sleep until either the dog comes to get me to go out, or I wake up on my own. I've been having some crazy dreams lately and waking myself up, so it's possible I'll see you again in a few hours.

Hour -24

Laying awake in bed, so thought I'd get up for the final hour and read some Fall of the Dragon Prince by Dan Allen.

Hour - The End

I managed to read about 4% more of Fall of the Dragon Prince. In total I read 4% of Fall of the Dragon Prince, finished what was left of Stormdancer by Jay Kristoff, and started Poison Study by Maria V Snider for a total listening time of 4 hours 55 minutes, and about 2 hours of work document review.

Not my best readathon, but I did also go to a fantastic bachelorette party!! Looking forward to October already ;-) . For now though...I'm going back to bed. G'night!

Camp NaNoWriMo Update

With everything else going on, this season of camp NaNoWriMo has not been as productive as I'd hoped. I thought I'd be able to at least come close to the 20,000 goal I set for myself. But now, I'll be lucky to get 5,000 words.

Work has been kicking my butt. I've been given additional responsibilities, but they don't have anyone yet to take over my previous responsibilities. So I have 3 main responsibilities which are to be divided by 100%, 50%, and 50%...which is 200%, and last I checked, the work day still only has 8 hours in it. I think with that revelation, it goes without saying, I've been brining work home a lot.

I also didn't pre-film and edit as many videos as I'd hoped for VEDA, because about the time I decided on this, is when I was warned of the additional responsibilities at work, so I had to put the videos for VEDA to the side to get things done for the job that pays the bills. Don't get me wrong, I'd much rather be doing this, but it doesn't pay the bills, or at least not yet. So A LOT of my time, and I mean A LOT has gone to filming, editing, and uploading.

How many words have I written?...

...Well...umm....(runs and hides, leaves a paper with a number for you to pick up. You pick up the paper. The number written is 600.)

Yes, okay, I know. 600 words feels like I've written nothing. Things are not going in my favor. I literally have not done much else besides working, filming, or editing. Okay, yes I've been eating, but while eating I've been planning out a video, or thinking of a blog post to write. I haven't even been watching many YouTube videos this month. I've listened to a few...in fact, I'm listening to one right now while I type out this post.

What will my final word count be for Camp NaNoWriMo? At this point I'm seriously hoping for the 5,000. But even this I fear may be out of my reach at this point. Now, excuse me, it's almost 11:00 pm and I still have projects for work to finish, and haven't filmed a video for tomorrow yet.

Why I DNF'd Malice by John Gwynne

I started reading Malice by John Gwynne, now what feels like several weeks ago. At the time I was excited to read it, but the excitement just didn't hold.

The story runs rather slow. I'm only about 100 pages in and feel like things are still being set in place, rather than starting to move. A contributing factor is the way the chapters are set up.

The chapters are told from different characters points of view. Then each character is in a different place with different supporting characters. A notebook and notes is required to keep what is going on straight.

Unfortunately, I was hoping to not need to carry a notebook with me so started reading without one. Now I regret it.

This book reminds me of my experience with Game of Thrones. I read Game of Thrones by George R R Martin on the recommendation of a friend from work. I started reading, got maybe 50 pages in and realized my error. I got a notebook, and started over. I was able after maybe getting 25% through, to stop taking notes and could keep everything straight.

I also can't seem to connect to the characters; any of them. And I'm not connecting to the story since I'm having a hard time keeping the story straight.

With all this, I have completely lost interest in reading Malice. Rather than force myself to read the book, I'd rather put it down, and possibly come back to it later. So, I've put the book down, and will be returning it to the library for someone else to enjoy.
