Juliet Langley is going about her day at her new job as manager of Java Jive. She had worked there previously in her college days for a paycheck, so she already knows mostly how things work and some of the employees. But then she gets in an argument with one of the cooks over his work ethic, and things like sitting on the work station table. It's no surprise then when the cook shows up dead that she is suspect number 1.
To clear her name she starts investigating the death of her employee, and gets into trouble each and every step of the way. She even ropes one of her old college friends, and now owner of Java Jive to help on some of her excursions. But there is also a hunky professor of film studies, but there's something suspicious about him. Juliet knows he lied to her about his name, and finds out he's not really a professor of film studies. Things get really crazy when a small romance starts between Juliet and the professor.
The story reminds me a little of the Stephanie Plum series by Janet Evanovich. Stephanie being an amateur bounty hunter, and Juliet being a seriously amateur detective.
I only gave the story 3 out of 5 stars. Too many things just didn't add up to me, and there were decisions made by characters I had to question. If you love the Stephanie Plum series, you'll probably enjoy this book. And with this also being a series, this is just the first book, I am curious as to how Juliet will be pulled into the next investigation. If you want an entertaining read, check out Death Before Decaf by Caroline Fardig.
